Good ole Ted Williams managed to slug a ball to this point in 1946 at 502 feet!

It was the longest home run ever hit in Fenway Park.

It's quite the famous seat before and after a game.

2010 New Orleans Baseball

The 2010 Baseball season has begun. I wish each of the boys on the University of New Orleans baseball team lots of luck and joy. Win or lose they all are living their dreams from back when they were 6 or 7 years old. There has been struggles and victories along the pathway but when they all reach 40 or 50 years old they'll look back with fondness on every moment. I pray for each one of them along with their family members sitting there through the sun and rain, cold and hot, happy and sad days and wins and losses. To the parents they all are still our 6 0r 7 year olds and through our eyes we love them no matter the outcome. Great luck to them all!

Oh no where have the years gone..................!!!!!!

Cory at 3 years old. We never ever left home without a 1. ball (or many) 2. glove 3. bat........... Years later it's still the same. I've cherished every waking moment. I feel a little empty today not being able to be with Cory since he's away at college studying really hard today (hehe). At the same time I'm so very happy for him and praise God for every wonderful day that he has blessed me with Cory. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CORY !!! and of course it wouldn't be a Breon birthday without --------CHA CHA CHA!

Looking to the future

Here I am again seeing my son off to college for year #3 already. Wasn't it just yesterday when we were excited and scared about the freshman year? He's off to far away places across the United States playing ball wherever there's a field. He is on his own this year with moving in and setting up the apartment. I wonder how it looks or maybe I don't want to know! I'm proud he's so independent to do all of this on his own but no matter what I hope he always wants his mama around. His future is bright no matter where the road leads and I wish him nothing but the best.

Hot times in Texas

We spent five great HOT HOT HOT days in McKinney, Texas. The temperatures reached 108 degrees on one of the days. I think I'm still sweating! All in all we had a great time. Got to spend time with my son and watch him and his team the McKinney Marshalls play some ball. Thank heavens the games didn't start till the evening when it was nicer to be outside.
These little guys were racing aroung the bases between innings. We rooted for #40 and he won!! There was a little boys birthday party this evening and were they ever acting like little boys! It brought back a lot of memories.

My little (now a big 6'5'') boy pitched while we were there. Yeah. As a pitcher you never can predict when you'll be in or out. --Any given day! My daughter loved this picture because of the corn field out in right field. Remember the saying...Build it and they will come....

I never can tell if his pitches are going to be a fast ball, curve ball, or his famous slider. The one thing I do know is I wouldn't stand in there to bat it or catch it at 90+ m.p.h.

A big thanks goes out to the host families who take these boys into their homes over the Summer. Thankfully he is with a great couple who also love baseball and were orginally from our home state of Pennsylvania. I feel blessed that he landed in the right place. I know at 20 years old that I wouldn't have been brave enough to go on my own so far from home with strangers. McKinney was a beautiful town. It is growing rapidly but I hope it keeps it's charm. Low and behold we both were at the same game and didn't realize it. He captured a great shot of my son and he even got a snapshot of my daughter and I in the crowd. Somehow my husband escaped the picture. I looked around at photographers at the game thinking maybe...but somehow must have been engrossed in the game and never realized he was there till I got back home. Thanks to him for blogging on the Marshalls!! I do believe in the song It's a Small World After all!!!!

My boy of Summer

Missing my son way down in Texas from up here in Pennsylvania. He's living in McKinney, TX with a host family and playing for the McKinney Marshalls. They are part of the Texas Collegiate Baseball league. I'm so proud that he is confident enough to head out on his own to places unknown and make the most of any situation. Sure I wish him well in his baseball endeavors but as just a Mom I want him to be happy and just love the day he's in and to find the blessings of every moment.

Baseball is life

My son is yet again ready to 'play ball'! He's off to McKinney, Texas to see yet another part of our great country. I should be sad that his college team didn't make the playoffs this year but a part of me was elated because he was able to come home for a few days otherwise who knows when I would see him. Thanks to the sponsers and host families he is off to some wonderful opportunities. I wish him well and hopefully I'll be able to experience the great state of Texas as we travel to see him this Summer. I loved these old time uniforms shown in today's picture.

Just another day having fun on the computer using my kids as guinea pigs. Since television drives me nuts I find attempting to use my creative side more appealing. Creativity I know is subjective but I do find it relaxing learning to use different tools and ending up with a finished product. I don't like spending hour upon hour on a project and waiting on perfection so I guess I'll never be a 'professional' photographer but I do have fun. Maybe I need to come up with only one hobby and do it well instead of having many and never perfecting any..... Anyways... Today's pic of course is my son and the green grass (finally) from my back yard. He's throwing his splitter so watch it doesn't hit you...it leaves bruises!

Let the games begin!

Spent most of the last week in New Orleans seeing my son play baseball. That's right the season has begun and Spring is on it's way! It was great to be with my son and his friends and their parents. We've made some great friends in the bleachers and enjoy their company and hospitality towards my family. We spent most of our time in the bleachers but we also were able to enjoy the great food only New Orleans can offer along with the sights. I even acquired a few of those left over beads from Mardi Gras! It's going to be a tough year for my sons team but it's still exciting. Over 8 players from his team were drafted into some level of the MLB last year so we are left with a rebuilding year. We can't wait to get back there and get back into those bleachers and root for the Privateers!

Happy Birthday to my husband! Of course like most husbands he despises having his picture taken so I spared him and instead came across this pic from last year. This photo says who he is. He's a great Dad and both of my kids can always depend on him being there on game day and sometimes even 2 hours before a game begins!! This was taken in New Orleans when we were able to travel down and see our son play. Since we aren't able to be at all his college games we take advantage of every second we can when we are there arriving for all warm ups, games, and clean up time. So Happy Birthday my love and keep being who you are. We all love you!

Go Cory!

Good luck to my son and his team U. of New Orleans or UNO! Friday marks the beginning of a long season. Cory has earned the starting weekend spot. I'm so proud of him. He's worked hard and has had baseball as his passion for 16 years now. His main goal was always to be able to play ball at a Division I school. When he sets his mind to something he makes it happen. He just hasn't set his mind to a clean room yet but there's still hope! Win lose or draw I only wish him the best and to get out there and live for the moment. So please say a little prayer for opening day jitters! God has brought him this far and will take him to the next step whatever it may be. God Bless you Cory and all the best!

View from the Bleachers- My World Tuesday

Why you may ask would basball be displayed as being 'my world'. It goes back about 16 years ago when my son first discovered his passion. I can remember all those brisk and cold Spring days at the beginning of each season followed by some sweltering days later into the season. I've been there all along in the bleachers. Cold metal bleachers, wood chipped and splinter ridden bleachers, and lots of really uncomfortable chairs that got carted all over Pennsylvania and some local states. Those were some really great times. As time went by the passion never dwindled and only grew. Baseball was my ultimate excuse for my first digital SLR the Nikon D-70. The first picture today was taken the very first weekend I owned the camera. It has seved me well ever since. Today I'm still there in the bleachers but it has expanded to New Orleans and beyond. My son is a pitcher for UNO and I even got to sit in the bleachers surrounded by LSU fans in Baton Rouge to witness his first college game that I had the opportunity to travel to. I thought the LSU fans would be intimidating but in turned out they understood I was only a Mom there to see her son and I think most of them wished him well. You can see the picture above that the bleachers were full of a wave of purple and gold. He pitched exceptionally well that evening and I can remember it all over again when I look back on the pictures. So yes, this is really 'my world'. Home at last!

It's been a long 3+ months since Cory has been home. He made it home very late last night to a reception at the airport. Waiting those last minutes for him to arrive goes on and on and on.... I was ready to get him something to eat even if it was after midnight. What a feeling it is to have my family all under one roof again.
