New Orleans Jazz Fest 2012

Jazz Fest 2012

This is the final post on the 2012 New Orleans Jazz Fest.
I've wanted to attend this event for some time and was finally
able to align life and show up to enjoy the bands, food, art, and people.
It was hot (understandably so - we were in the South!), and the days
were long and the choices were over whelming.  BUT!  It was a fun
time I'm so glad to have had.  With every element I've covered there was so
much I either didn't snap pictures of or I just missed or forgot about.  There
were many more bands I wish I had the chance to hear and there were bands
I wish I could've heard more.  We kept moving attempting to experience all we
could.  Just one band could be a days worth of entertainment let alone 10-20!
Would I go back?
....in a heart beat!

The New Orleans Police Department.
The Crescent and Star symbol covers the Crescent city and the sign for the sheriff department - the star. I thought it a curious sign that reflected their city.

The festival is held at the New Orleans Fairgrounds and Race Track.
Since it's too hot in the Summer for horse racing the infield of the track provides a great
space for a festival.

Everywhere you looked you couldn't be mistaken where you were.

The airways provided a spot for the usual commercial of where to go and what to do when the day was over.

For an added fee you could drink cold Miller Lite beer with some cool air at the Miller Lite tent.  It also provides a top deck where you can get some impressive view of several bands in different directions.

The festival logos were art in themselves.

Can you distinguish the festival elements in the tree?

A colorful ending.

The Jazz Fest posters have become quite collectable.
This years posters portrayed Shamarr Allen and Trombone Shorty.
The picture above is Shamarr.
Check out  art4now for a view of the posters in the past.
Below is a picture of the other poster of Trombone Shorty.

New Orleans is a city that can dwell in you.  Sure it's city with some problems but the culture it provides is like no other place.  If you get the opportunity visit New Orleans and better yet make it when Jazz Fest is in town.

New Orleans Jazz Fest 2012 BANDS!

Jazz Fest Music!
It's all about the music. What's your beat?
Music is the universal language of mankind.

Trombone Shorty
Unbelievable talent!

"The Boss" and the E street Band

Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders

The Boss on jumbotron.

The Storyville String Band

In the Jazz tent

A little bit of The Blues

Florence and the Machine

Jimmy Buffet
Mac McAnally
Everyone has 'the band' that they want to hear while at Jazz Fest.
Being a Parrot Head was my wish.
Jimmy and Mac came in place of Eddie Vedder who was ill.  They played acoustically
and what a show!

Bruce Hornsby

Wanda Rouzan
She had the entire audience up on their feet and most line dancing.

The Zac Brown Band
Great band to end the day.
A little country never hurts anyone!

As we were leaving Jazz Fest the party wasn't over and neither were the sounds.
Thanks to my son we found free parking and enjoyed a great walk to and from
Jazz Fest.  The locals played in their garages, front yards, basketball courts, and
sitting on the front step.
Maybe in a couple of years I'll get to enjoy one of these bands inside the gates!

The Flags of Jazz Fest:

When you're with a group and you want to be found,
have a flag and give general directions and tell them to "look for our flag"!
Some are just down right creative
What would your flag look like?

People and Flags.

Did I hear someone think flag inundation?

We were in the South.  Yes the Confederate flag still flies.
*Nobody was hurt in the creation of the flags.

If the South would've won; maybe the Confederate flag would have
changed into this?

Everyone met at the Phunky Monkey and a good time was had by all!

The People of Jazz Fest:
(cut Walmart a break for the day)

Find the bazaar in your closet and buy a ticket and enter Jazz Fest.
Find your most touristy outfit and become one with the crowds.

Remember to choose something comfortable at any cost for the long hot dancing days.

A hat works wonders to keep that southern sun from finding your tender nose.

Dancing.  Did I mention dancing?

They must've heard about wearing a hat!

Pajamas optional here as well as Walmart!

If your secret desire was to be a ballerina this is the place to make your dreams come true!

Mix and match day!

Make sure you choose the fashionable accessories from your jewelry box.
When in doubt pink flamingos acentuate all outfits.
