Morning Stroll

I found a new path this morning. Strolling through and around a baseball field, softball field, soccer fields, lacrosse field, hockey field and a community garden I found this quaint oasis. I thought it deserves some TLC in after processing today. It was a perfect morning with perfect weather. What a pleasant way to begin the day.

My days are filled with sitting on the sidelines cheering. We 'finally' scored our first goal today. Whew! You would think one should say what a terrible season but the team is full of really beautiful young ladies. Not are they only beautiful on the outside but inside where it really counts. They always have a smile and a great attitude. They make us proud!

These days pass me by and I quickly move from one topic to another and along with the moving quickly my brain lags behind. Have I posted this before? Even if I have it has made it to my top 10 listing. The colors and brillance of this picture makes me feel good. So many of us love the Fall season and even though the colors of Fall are great the lack of color here is somehow just right.

WW II

So I've been on this World War II kick lately. It seems for some odd reason every book I've read lately revolves around this time period. Some things I've read leave me thinking 'are we as humans destined to repeat ourselves?' I hope not! The book 'Night' by Elie Wiesel can be hard to read but I do think that the world needs to remember and pass on to new generations what has transpired in the past. One of my favorite places to visit is the Army Heritage trail here in Carlisle, PA. On one occasion we ran across this old German cycle. How interesting! It's a great place to learn of every skirmish or war that the United States has had involvment in. Many events are held here with hands on demonstrations and reenactments. What a great way to learn of our history as a nation.

St. Louis Cathedral, New Orleans

Waking up on the right side of the bed is more common on a weekend. Have you ever witnessed that? Add sunshine and mild temperatures and not being in a hurry and you could almost have a beginning to a perfect day. New Orleans came to my mind first thing this morning. I'm thinking it may have something to do with wondering how my son is doing way down South. It would be a stupendous morning for a stroll along side the Mississippi River with the St. Louis Cathedral in the background. The surrounding area around the church is a fascinating place with history at every step. If you ever find yourself with the opportunity take a morning stroll along the river (any river) on a crisp sunny day and report back if you do not agree that it would put you in the 'right' frame of mind to face anything for the rest of the day.

Scrapping

I've been teaching myself lately about the world of digital scrapbooking. I like to keep trying new things before I ever really master one thing. But when it's a hobby do I need to master anything? I'm thinking a hobby is something to just plain enjoy for one's self. I still haven't mastered every button and gadget on my camera(s), lenses, printers, scanners, photoshop, corel draw, corel paintshop, computer, blog, and on an on and on. I need to only keep myself in check and ask but do you enjoy it all regardless? YES! To me it beats television and cleaning! Well what doesn't beat cleaning? Anyyyyyywayyyy, I had the most perfect subjects to attempt my hand at scrapbooking. - my stunning niece and daughter. I'm digging deep to find some artistic genes!!!!

Whacker

So yet another season hs begun. I was wondering when I would be back to my speacialty of 'bleacher sitting'! Field Hockey is in full swing along with the concecission stands, pasta parties, car washes and taxi service. I wouldn't trade a minute of it though.

There's just something I find intriguing of this house. If you were to look very closely it's in pretty bad shape in many areas but it doesn't lose it's intrigue. As the warm evening light surrounded this side of the street it gave out a special glow. Look closely to find the bucket of paint that was left when it's last painting occurred.

A glorious day in the mountains! Through the mountains and the valleys we trekked to the cabin for a relaxing afternoon. You can tell Fall is knocking on Summer's door so it's time to enjoy each moment outdoors.


These lovely ladies learned how to shoot targets today. It gave them a little kick but they were up to the challenge.

Happy Birthday to my Mother

Happy Birthday to my Mother who is there for all of her family. She sure has put up with alot from us through the years. We're ever grateful for all she does and wish her all the best and many more happy years with her crazy family!

Like a bridge over troubled waters......

This is more like a troubled bridge over smooth waters. Our local bridge has been deemed unsafe and closed till further notice. It was built in 1912 and has serverd the community well for many many years. Now it's closed off and my walking path has been invaded. Now I must climb over a cement barrier and venture on my way. It's a quaint old bridge if you can call a bridge quaint.... A little one lane humpback! I hate the thought that now a double lane bridge will be built which will bring more and faster traffic into my little quiet neck of the woods. (rant for the day)

First day of High School

Freshman! 9th grade! Oh noooo-- she's growwwwwing up! My stylish young lady is usually so particular about what she wears. But what about those skinny jeans??? Oh to be young.

So Dale has been hanging out on our back deck looking for Chip. Hopefully they were reunited when they went for a little drive to a nearby area so they could be together.

This is our Summer friend. We do not know his/her name but we do enjoy saying hello each week on our way to and from church. I'm thinking that maybe his buddies get to go to church and he/she's left behind wishing he/she could jump the fence and be with his/her buddies. We live in Amish country and pass many many horse and buggies on a Sunday morning. Our buddy pictured here never fails to be waiting for us.

For quite a few years we've enjoyed this front porch. Every year the hanging baskets are full and bright. When I snapped this picture I didn't even take notice to the great mailbox in the lower left hand corner. What came to mind? The song by Jason Aldeen "Big Green Tractor" -------

Looking to the future

Here I am again seeing my son off to college for year #3 already. Wasn't it just yesterday when we were excited and scared about the freshman year? He's off to far away places across the United States playing ball wherever there's a field. He is on his own this year with moving in and setting up the apartment. I wonder how it looks or maybe I don't want to know! I'm proud he's so independent to do all of this on his own but no matter what I hope he always wants his mama around. His future is bright no matter where the road leads and I wish him nothing but the best.

AWESOME!!! So many thanks to the volunteer fire fighters of Shippensburg, PA. We had both departments come to our vacation bible school at Cleversburg U.M. Church. The guys showed the kids the workings of a fire truck and I can say everyone really enjoyed it. It was something new this year and what a hit it was. What a comfort it is for the folks of Shippensburg to have two great companies at either end of town working together. What I thought was particularly great was I found the three young men below who have attended bible school at our church not so long ago. It's truly remarkable to see that they've grown into really great guys and volunteer for their community. Keep up the great work guys you are truly blessed. If you see a firefighter thank them for all they do and also say a prayer for their continued safety because you never know if you may be the next one that they will be saving. God's grace to you fire fighters!

Thanks to family and friends that joined in celebration of my daughter's confirmation day. I'm so happy that she stands firm in her belief in God to guide her throughout her life. God has surely blessed her and return she's been a blessing to us all.

St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry W.V.

No words can adequately describe this. Inspiring.What a climb up these stone steps. Was it worth it? You bet. Between the church and the outstanding view overlooking the merging of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers with the surrounding mountains......breathtaking!

The inside of the church was as inspiring as the outside. The climb was well worth it!

Harpers Ferry W.V.

Do you have a favorite sound? Have you ever given it any thought if you had a favorite sound? One my favorite sounds are train whistles. It reminds me of growing up by the tracks. We always lived 'on the other side of the tracks'! These tracks led into a mounain tunnel from Harpers Ferry W. V. to Maryland Heights. What sights!

Cruisin down the river on a Sunday afternoon... Oops it was Saturday but the song didn't fit. There were hundreds of rafters floating down the Shenadoah and Potamac Rivers. Our favorite floaters were the groups with a raft just for their cooler. What a way to spend a Summer day.

Hey up there! There brave climbers scaled the mountain. What a workout that would be. Just watching them made my knees hurt. Brave souls!

Curious

An old bridge that was swept away in a flood years ago still has the supporting walls. Out of the walls nature finds a way of providing us with pleasure and curiosity. If man attempted to plant these trees on the old bridge supports in the middle of the river I'm sure it wouldn't grow but if you step back and let God what greatness can happen....

This flower has had me curious for about three years. I've seen them on the roadside to and from work and wonder often what it is called. Today I discovered this one at a national park all by its lonesome. Do you think I could've uprooted it and give it a new home in my yard? I need to find out about this tall and proud flower. I'm sure it's in the lilly family but my search has begun to plant my own and give it it's proper name.

Trufulla Tree

This is our Trufulla tree in the front yard. We were spending some rocking times on the front porch recently watching thunderstorms all around us and snapped our favorite tree in the yard. Why do we call it a Trufulla tree? Go on a search of 'The Lorax' to find out! The Once-ler decides to chop down a Trufulla tree and he's doomed by greed while making a profit from his thneeds. Dr. Suess sure was an inspiring man!
