Pine Grove Furnace Fest

Pine Grove Furnace and State Parks in Newville, PA is a favorite spot to get out in nature.
How lucky was I to come across this beautiful sight while taking a leisurely walk with the dog?!
It was a SOOC! (straight out of the camera) or rather a SOOP! (straight out of the phone!
All these pictures today are straight out of my phone.
There weren't many flowers left this time of year but because of the exceptionally
warmer weather a few blooms were left for the butterfly and bee to enjoy a little pollen!

The friends of Pine Grove Furnace host a festival every year.
One of the highlights is the pumpkin carving and pumpkin walk to Fuller Lake.
The pumpkins are put on a make shift barge so to speak while lit then pushed to the
center of the lake.
The small beach was crammed to capacity while we listened to the legend of the
Hairy Hand!
The lake was saved from the hairy hand again this year!
You haven't heard about the legend involving Finley McDougal?
You need to attend next year to see if the lake can be saved for another year!
~~~
In the daylight the pumpkins didn't seem as scary as being lit in the dark.
It actually adds to the natural Fall colors surrounding them!
Every season at Fuller Lake provides relaxation and great scenery.
This was mid Summer when the beach had sunbathers and a few swimmers.
Are you a hiker?
The park offers the midway point on the Appalachian Trail that runs from Maine to Georgia.
Are you a fisherman?
You can fish during every season!  Dig a whole in the ice and keep fishing in the Winter
Belleville Farmers Market
I'm from the area of all black Amish buggies.
In Belleville  you can find some colorful choices.
Everyone needs a pickup to take home their bigger purchases.
The Amish have their version of a pickup truck too!
Hey!
There's hay for sale!
On this auction block you can purchase your garden plants for the year or buy
some delicious vegetables grown for you.
How about a good pecan pie?
How much would you bid?
Baaaa!
Things were looking a little sheepish in this pen.
Can you see a warm sweater among these sheep?
Waiting for a new home.
Farms, silos and mountains.
What more could you want in life!?
Farm Country!
Thanks to my friend Susan for sharing her part of the world with us!
Round Barn of Adams County, PA
From high on the hill at Hauser's Estate Winery you can look across a large portion of
Adams County in Pennsylvania.  On this occasion the air had such a crispness.
The Round Barn was so vivid compared to many other times.
If you're ever a visitor near Gettysburg, PA both the Round Barn and Hauser's
deserve a visit!
Because I save my phone photos to an App that sometimes stylizes my photos for me,
I thought I'd share their stylized version of the Round Barn too.
Penn State Arboretum
The frogs weren't out but their pads were!
Peaceful solitude from a hectic day.
Sit awhile and contemplate life.
Juniata County Courthouse - Mifflintown, PA
On a recent jaunt I made a quick side trip into Mifflintown, PA.
The county seat for Juniata County in Pennsylvania.
The courthouse is so very charming I had to catch a shot.
The arches below the portico is eye catching.
The clock tower on the courthouse isn't so shabby!
Strawberry Moon 2016
The clouds finally flitted away and all that was left was the light of the Strawberry Moon!
The rising had a slow partially covered start!
As the moments ticked the clouds seemed they would win by over taking the moon.
Finally as the moon rose I could sing
I can see clearly now!
--the clouds are gone.....
Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area
The snow geese take over!
The birds perform in a fly-by!
Although most of the geese are white as can be you can find a few with some color.
Taking a rest before another fly-by show.
Some days it can be find to find the water under the geese.
Cornwall Iron Furnace
A spur of the moment day trip to Cornwall, PA brought us to the Cornwall Iron Furnace.
The old brownstone buildings stand the test of time.
The Abattoir building was the smokehouse and butcher shop.
What a great building for a meat provider!
The main building made you feel you were going to Church.
The Paymaster occupied this building, so come pay day where to you think the most
popular place was in town!
Cornwall Miners Village.
If you needed a place to stay with your family while working for the company homes
were available.  What a cozy little village!  It's still occupied today with private residences.
Penn State University ~ Old Main
I was lucky enough to enjoy some time on the PSU campus exploring some buildings
and their history.  As on many campuses it all started with Old Main!
The Old Main Tower stands majestically among the trees while overseeing the campus activity.
Thanks to the Class of 1904!
I'm taking it to mean your education may seem slow but worldly!
Or when Atlas became tired he found a turtle to hold the world aloft for him?
What's your take?
Thanks to the Class of 1966!
No matter the angle Old Main definitely lets you know it there!
Kutztown University Rugby
There's no question who the owner of this vehicle supports!
Kutztown Rugby is nationally ranked and play tough to keep that distinction.
This part of the game has a technical name, but to me  -- I call it 'doing the spider'!
Their skills in obtaining the ball had no boundaries.
Their opponents this day - Army - also displayed some wicked skills.
The field goal kicks can happen literally from any spot on the field.
The kickers show their skills from all angles.
This kicker was a local (Carlisle) player, it was good to cheer on a local guy!
.....and Score!
Cumberland County Fall Colors
The colors pop and then POP!
With just the right amount of sun shining the colors almost hurt your eyes
with their vibrance.
Even the dead weeds can't distract from the colors.
