Mackinac Island Grand Hotel

In all it's glory
  The Mackinac Island Grand Hotel
Approaching the island your eyes are immediately drawn to the hotel.

Build in 1887 they proudly pronounce they have the longest porch in the world.

Grand is an appropriate word to describe the hotel.
Not a guest?
For $10 you can walk through the hotel both inside and out, and maybe even have lunch!

The cafe is also open for some lighter faire.

The views!
Did I mention the views!!

  3. How interesting that they charge an 'admission' to walk through the hotel!
I must admit, I bet it is worth it.

  5. Absolutely spectacular. Looks like you had the perfect weather as well. We lived in Michigan for a few years but never made it to the Island, so I am so pleased you shared these pictures.

  6. "Wow" is insufficient here. I'm sure I must have seen photos of this beautiful hotel with its amazing long porch, because it seems to call to something in me: not a memory, because I've never been there, but something more along the lines of a longing. Thank you for sharing your visit with us.

  7. It really does look like something from Europe .... what an amazing porch. Interesting that you can pay to tour even if not staying....but is there a guard? Because in most hotels, you can walk in and sit in the lobby (assuming you don't look like a bum, I suppose -- no-one has ever questioned me ;>) -- and especially if there's a dining room. We've eaten in a lot of hotels that we weren't staying in -- and then there are the times we've waited in the lobby for a friend or relative who was staying there .... (but admittedly, while those weren't Motel 6's, they weren't as elegant as this one.)

We have really GOT to spend some time in Michigan!!

    1. It cost $10 to get in if you're not a guest. You can tour inside and the grounds with this entrance fee. There is a person there collecting. You can also have lunch/dinner here with reservations. If you do, the $10 goes toward your meal. It was worth the $10!!
