All I could see from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood;
I turned and looked the other way,
And saw three islands in a bay.
from Renascence by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Atop of the mountains overlooking the ocean and connecting with Camden, Maine
is Mt. Battie, a WWI memorial.
After you climb the steps you can see forever.
This is one of two place on the US east coast where the mountains meet the ocean.
Many writers and other artists find themselves drawn to Maine. I can see why.
The views and the slower paced lifestyle bring about a creative flair.
From the other side atop the Mt. Battie memorial.
The mountains ramble on for as far as the eye can see.
See what else is going on around the world:
What amazing views. I can understand why artists and writers would enjoy this spot.
ReplyDeleteWell worth the climb to see those views and the tower!

Your description of the views make me want to go there! (Not in winter though:) )
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Where we live in British Columbia they say it's a place where the mountains drop into the sea. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWHat lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteWe are thinking this may be up above Acadia. Buddy hiked the AT but was not in the gorgeous area. The tower is beautiful. Love the stonework. A gorgeous area of our country.
ReplyDeleteOf wow! The views are stunning. Wish I would know more about the East Coast and all its treasures.
